L2018-01 Accident leading to death of captain at Kittilä airport on 4.1.2018

The Safety Investigation Authority, Finland has decided to initiate an investigation under Section 2 of the Safety Investigation Act (525/2011) into an incident that occurred at Kittilä Airport on 4 January 2018. The door of aircraft OE-GKA, a Gulfstream G150 type business jet owned by Private Airlines Germany GmbH, which had halted at a ramp, flew open when the captain was opening it from outside. The captain died of the injuries he sustained in the accident.

Flight Officer (ret.) Pekka Alaraudanjoki has been appointed as the Head of the Investigation Team, and Aviation Maintenance Engineer Jukka Jylö and Air traffic controller (ret.) Tauno Ylinen have been appointed as members. Chief Safety Investigator Ismo Aaltonen will serve as the Investigator-in-Charge.
